The babies at the Census and Detroit...
The Census is a job creation program. Not jobs for you but jobs for itself. They have received $1 billion and plan to spend it to convince people to fill out the Census forms which discriminate against many ethnic and racial groups.

The alleged purpose of the census is to help distribute the $435 billion in federal funds -- but the truth is the government doesn't use the census to fairly distribute the funds. Instead, they pick and chose based on political favorites. Many ethnic and religious groups are denied federal funding -- and also the trickle down funds from states and municipalities...

White Has Sense Of Humor and Class
Oh, I had fun with it. The bill for my license plate renewal fee came in with a note from Secretary of State Jesse White explaining that the Illinois legislature (those greedy sob’s) had raised my fee by “$20.”

Of course, when I looked at the bill, the increase was $21. So where did the $1 go?

Voters are funny. You raise their property taxes $500 or more a year and they moan but fall asleep. You raise their water bill $2 or vehicle sticker $5 and they go berserk.

The politicians understand it and know the larger the hike the more the voters will feel helpless because...

Shades Of Gray — Ray Hanania's World Comic Strip, February 7, 2010:
Israelis blast "New Israel Fund" over the "Goldstone Report" of War Crimes by Israel in Gaza Strip

Extremists on Israel's far right have attacked the New Israel Fund for its ties to pro-Israeli organizations that have supported investigating the war crimes charges by by the United Nation's special investigator Richard Goldstone in his report, the Goldstone Report. The extremists have used Nazi-era images to demonize the NIF which supports peace, two-states and an end to violence, and the NIF has come under increasing attacks by Israeli society. The biggest complaint is not that The Goldstone Report's conclusions that some in Israel's military intentionally murdered Palestinian women and children during the brutal and oppressive Israeli military assault on the Gaza Strip last year, but rather that they supported the charges that the war crimes should be investigated.

Shades Of Gray — Ray Hanania's World Comic Strip, January 16, 2010:
Israel embarrasses Turkish Ambassador, but it could have been worse

Israel's Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon, following in the racist practices of his boss Avigdor Lieberman, used his usual style of ridicule and shame to embarrass the Ambassador of Turkey, a nation that has been a close military ally of Israels, the only in the region.

Turkey responded by withdrawing their ambassador, protesting Israel's brutal treatment of the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip -- their first strong protest about the carnage in Gaza in over a year, and questioned Israel's policies towards non-Jews.

Lierbeman refused to apologize but moderate elements in the Israeli Government recognized the mistake and immediately flew to Turkey to apologize. But the damn is broken by the damned. And it won't be fixed too soon.

Maybe Avigdor Lieberman is a good thing after all.

Shades Of Gray — Ray Hanania's World Comic Strip, December 29, 2009:
Protests? Protests? Protests, where?

Bias in the Mainstream News media. Oppression by government troops against civilians in Iran is big news and even President Obama speaks out. But government oppression against Palestinians by Israel's government is ignored. What is and what isn't news? What the biased mainstream American news media decides is and isn't news.

Shades Of Gray — Ray Hanania's World Comic Strip, October 26, 2009:
Dick Cheney says Obama has been "Dithering" for the past year

Former Vice President Dick Cheney says that President Obama has been "Dithering" for the past year in Afghanistan. I wonder what word Cheney uses to describe what he and Bush failed to do in Afghanistan for eight years.

Quinn’s Budget Is Just More Election Fantasy

Like all of the budgets proposed by governors in the past few years, Gov. Pat Quinn’s spending outline last week was an almost complete fantasy. It has pretty much zero chance of surviving intact and will have to be tossed out and substantially reworked before the session ends.

Electric cars, hybrids and... coal power?  -plus-  Is silicone cookware safe?
Dear EarthTalk®:

Isn’t the interest in electric cars and plug-in hybrids going to spur increased reliance on coal as a power source? And is that really any better than gasoline/oil in terms of environmental impact?

-- Graham Rankin, via e-mail

It’s true that the advent of electric cars is not necessarily a boon for the environment if it means simply trading our reliance on one fossil fuel — oil, from which gasoline is distilled—for an even dirtier one: coal, which is burned to create electricity.

The mining of coal is an ugly and environmentally destructive process. And, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) burning the substance in power plants sends some 48 tons of mercury — a known neurotoxin — into Americans’ air and water every year (1999 figures, the latest year for which data are available). Furthermore, coal burning contributes some 40 percent of total U.S. carbon dioxide emissions. The National Academy of Sciences (NAS) estimates that coal mining and burning cause a whopping $62 billion worth of environmental damage every year in the U.S. alone, not to mention its profound impact on our health.    MORE...

The Burning Heart

I hope I'm not going to disappoint you when I advise you that this isn't one of those "heaving bosom" stories (that's my husband's nickname for those romance-novel paperbacks they sell in the check-out lines, and I'm sure no explanation of that term is required).

And I hope I don't alarm you unduly when I tell you that the "burning heart" that I'm going to talk about is... yours. I'm talking about arterial inflammation and other scary things that can go wrong with the engine that makes all of us "go": the human heart.

Did you know that chronic inflammation of the walls of arteries is a part of the process that causes heart disease? I didn't know until recently, and I can tell you that learning this didn't exactly help me to sleep better at night.  MORE...
